Start of samples

I have started doing my samples and seeing if my heat transfers designs work
On the fabrics.
My first one is the newspaper pieces from a New York Times to make a collage , i used the image of this from the background of my artist research sheet.
I started using A4 size piece of a cotton and a A4 magic touch heat transfer.

Mock up of final design

I wanted to have a paper sample of what i wanted my design like in the size i wanted my design to be A3.
I did this by getting photocopies of my design development sheets , then cutting out the parts i wanted and laying them out in my desired design.

Professional Pratice business cards

For my professional practice folder we had to look into business cards and design my own to go with my exhibit.
So i have 3 designs the first was a newspaper background with New York written on it.
The second is the american designed statue of liberty with my face and hair.
Then the next is an Apple to represent the big apple and all the text is New York Times inspired.

Final Design sheet 2

For my final final design sheet i put a mixture of my favourite pieces of my other
Sheets such as the silhouette of the skyline and main landmarks.
I had both main designs from development sheets , on which i used a range of media on it.
My final design includes statue of liberty , Brooklyn bridge and Chrysler building.

Final design 1

On my first final design sheet i played around with arrangement so i had middle parts as a reflection so the 3 images are reflected so it appears right way up and upside down.
The 3 things are Chrysler building , statue of liberty , Time square screens. On the sides are the empire state building and the other side is my updated version of the statue of liberty for the modern day.
I used acrylic paint , watercolour paint , oil pastel and fine liner.

Jeff Koons / Roy lichenstein Artist Sheet

My second artist sheet is on Jeff Koons first of all and he is a New York Sculpture he uses metal amongst other materials he was part of the pop art movement with Andy Warhol . His work the tulips was the most expensive bought work from a living artist in the range of 20 million which was made by stainless steel.
I also looked at Roy Lichenstein i love freedom piece of the statue of liberty.
I used acrylic paint ,oil pastle , pen.

Visual / Design Development sheet

For my final sheet i went for a mixture of the 3 and involved the big apple and the New York skyline and main details from the Chrysler building and the many windows of New York.
The background is an acrylic wash .
The first pattern on the edges is the windows , the second is the Chrysler building details on the top of the building.
The final pattern is the silhouette of the skyline then in the middle is the big apple and sketch.

Drawn Research / Mood Board

As my final piece is a newspaper i wanted to set the theme by recreating a news paper with a short article on one of the statue of liberty one of many land marks i visited .
The background is done using scraps of the New york post and paint.
I used acrylic paint and pen .

John Galliano Newspaper dress artist sheet

For my Galliano page he made the newspaper dress famous and it was worn on sex and the city twice by sarah jessica parker.
The background of the page is pieces of the new york times and post i brought back with me. I then sponged on the american flag using goulash.
It has a mixture of images and drawn images , also i recreated my own copy of the newspaper dress fashion illustration.

For my visual sheet i picked my favourite landmarks and drew from my images using pencil , fine liner and water colour.
I choose my favourite landmarks the statue of liberty , subway ,Chrysler building and the brooklyn bridge and the iconic street signs.
I wanted to mix monochrome with colour.

The theme for the rest of my work so i went for the stereo typical usa 🇺🇸 i went
For a red , white and blue colour scheme.
I created a flag with iconic nyc imagery in the stars.
The sheet has 3D aspects with built up images such as the big apple and taxi number plates.
I used card , images , Acrylic , oil pastel , pen , Fine liners

Starting my sketchbook

As my FMP is about New York i started by decorating it with my view of New York.
I added the iconic i heart NY logo and the big apple , also i used a mix of newspaper letters.
The first page is an introduction to my project so i found an image of text used in NYC newspapers so i used that text to display my title New York , New york i love you.

Primary research - my trip to new york

So to collect my primary research i went to new york with the college trip and visited statue of liberty , ground zero , empire state building , top of the rock and times square , grand central plus the many streets of new york .
I really got a feel for the city and i loved it and gave me inspiration.

Start of artist research

Now my proposal is done i am now researching artist that match my project of new york so i choose to pick an new york based artist Jeff koons and his amazing metal colourful sculptures and range of
Pop art colours and subjects. Then artist who have used new york landmarks in there work such as Roy Lichenstein with his i love liberty piece. Also into the architects of the landmarks and fashion designers such as galliano who made the newspaper dress famous and many more artists.
